Transparent shop window LED in the Swisscom shop

For Blackweek 2025 jls implemented transparent shop window LED in four Swisscom shops. The slim LED posters make it possible to display highly attention grabbing content without significantly affecting visibility natural light or the architectural aesthetics of the store. In addition to the technical implementation jls also developed the content concept and produced all content for the transparent LED displays.

Transparent LED solutions are a clear trend in 2025. The increasing number of available products and announced rollouts for example at Gabor stores in Germany underlines this development. (Invidis Bericht Gabor Stores). 

In the Swisscom shops LED posters from Muxwave are used in two different sizes (2m x 2m and 3m x 2m). The modules offer more than 90 % transparency a pixel pitch of 3.9mm and a maximum brightness of 3500 cd/m2 which makes them suitable even for environments with direct sunlight.

All content is managed using the same digital signage CMS that also supplies the other displays in the shops.

Content for transparent LED has to be designed differently from content for conventional displays. The interplay between content and the real world in the background pixel spacing and reflections all need to be considered.

With transparent LED black pixels do not emit light. Any area of the video that is pure black simply becomes transparent and the viewer sees the real environment behind the glass. This means that black areas reveal the physical world behind the LED.

By deliberately alternating between full screen content and transparent phases a particularly striking effect is created which is ideal for shop window installations. Equally important is a carefully designed loop structure smooth transitions allow the digital content to blend harmoniously with the surroundings.

Transparent LED are changing the way communication works and create new possibilities for presenting products and services.

New integration options using transparent LED foils applied directly to the glass provide an almost invisible and efficient way to turn existing shop windows glass walls or partitions into dynamic media surfaces.
